A modern take on the mid century style, the Sham Tallboy features gradually increasing drawer depths, hand cut dove tailed drawers, hand carved coved edge details, double bridle leg joinery and shop-made solid brass pins.

Finished in rubbed shellac, pitch black milk paint, oil and wax.

This beautiful cabinet was designed by John Wardle for the exhibition ‘Relatively Useful’ a collaboration with his associate Simon Lloyd, which ran at Heide Moma during Melbourne Design Week, 2022.

The cabinet draws its observers towards its angular hand reliefs and shaped handles and beckons to be used. It’s two central doors pivot open to reveal a razor thin internal shelf while the corner doors swing open 180degree allowing full access to the cabinets contents.

Three dovetailed drawers sit above with a top shelf that floats effortlessly crowned with a splayed inflection.

A combination of shop sawn veneers, end grain capping and solid timber were used to create a stable yet seamlessly balanced visual effect.

Finished in hard wax oil.

Second Sideboard

Oak, Rattan.

Oil, wax.

Made to sit within the same room as the Wellington Sideboard, the Second Sideboard has a more sleek and refined look. It houses a custom sound system on anti-vibration shelving, with shop made rattan doors to allow for airflow and sound.

It features complex turned and sculpted legs, waterfall mitred case, hand cut door joinery and turned handles.

Josh’s Watch Box

Quarter matched Walnut Burl, Birds Eye Maple, Boxwood inlay, Peacock Baize, Cherry, Ebony, Walnut.

Traditionally French polished.

Made to house a collection of 8 watches and accessories, this box features a seamless quarter matched, water falling burl outer, with a stunning Birds Eye maple interior.

It features 8 Watch pockets with handmade Baize cushions, imported from the UK, and a “hidden” drawer which springs opens with the pull of a pin, once the box is unlocked. Full brass hardware throughout, and a family crest inlay made using the double bevel marquetry technique. The top of the lid has patterns of string inlay in Boxwood.

Art Deco Wall Unit.

U.S Walnut, quarter sawn White Oak, Poplar, Brass.

This enormous built-in wall unit measures in at just under 3m tall and 4.5m wide. It features tambour doors with parquetry inlay, shop-made brass pulls, book matched everything, and hand shaped waterfall curves.

Finished in rubbed shellac, oil and wax.

Matched pair of bedside tables made from U.S. Walnut, Poplar and Brass featuring double bridle leg joinery, with solid brass pins, hand carved, cove profiles, hand cut dovetaied piston fit drawers and ship-lap back panels.

Hall Table

Tasmanian Blackwood, Gidgee.

Danish Oil.

Hall table, with turned tapered legs and gidgee socks. Exposed joinery and subtle profiling enhance this initially simple form. It features a lightly curved and heavily beveled top, wedged through tenons and gidgee detailed aprons.

Console Table

Walnut, Poplar

5 dovetailed drawers hang effortlessly underneath the sleek walnut top of this unique table.

Made to accommodate the venting of the wall heater through a separated compartment at the rear of the unit, this console hangs on French cleats and is supported by 2 front legs with oversized roundovers and hand carved joints.

Finished in 2 pack lacquer.

Watch Box #2

Macassar Ebony, Walnut, Peacock Baize, Brass.

Traditionally French polished.

Starburst Macassar ebony veneers create a visually enticing effect, which waterfalls seamlessly down 2 sides of the box. The interior made from US Walnut, with 8 watch cushions in imported UK Baize contains an interior tray for accessories and a “hidden” drawer which opens via pull pin with spring mechanism.

It features hand cut veneers, hand cut dovetails and brass hardware throughout.

Torsion Table

Walnut

The torsion table is made lightweight and strong from its torsion box construction. A hollow grid structure is covered in stable plywood and shop sawn walnut veneers allowing incredible strength and rigidity while maintaining a beautifully simple appearance.

Figured walnut veneers sawn from one board create the 4 piece top which sits upon a pair of intersecting loop legs with oversized roundovers and bishops mitres. 

Finished in 2 pack lacquer. 

Atomic Cabinet

Walnut, tiger maple, poplar, brass.

The Atomic cabinet was made to house tv accessories and provide storage. It features laminated quarter-sawn lengths all from the same board of US walnut, hand cut dovetailed drawers, twin electrical grommets, hand shaped leg and handles.

Finished with, shellac, oil and wax.

The A-TWO Sideboard made from U.S. White Oak and U.S. Black Walnut.

Features tambour doors, handcut dovetailed drawers, exposed through-tenon joinery, contiuous grain and waterfall mitres.

Designed by Adam Markowitz, this multi-use cabinet has been designed to let light through while being viewed from all sides. It features 3 bottom hinged doors for book storage access, recessed steel structure for added strength, lower seating area and floating shelf on walnut-filled brass rod.

The Wellington Sideboard is a contemporary variation of the classic mid century style. Clean lines with turned legs and sculpted rail joinery create a pleasing combination of crispness and quality while the matt raw finish softens its appearance.

It features a floating top shelf with coved lip detail, hand shaped legs and joinery, rattan doors with soft close hinges and adjustable shelving.

This sleek dining table designed by Adam Markowitz, is more than meets the eye. Measuring in at 3m long x 1m wide and 1m high, it was designed for both seated dining and as a standing tasting table.

Easy to dismantle for easy transportation, the table features huge exposed bridle joinery on the legs, beveled underside top with a light radius on the ends and hand sculpted OG profiling on the legs.

This small cabinet hangs effortlessly from the wall on concealed French cleats. Made with hand cut dovetails and mortise and tenon joinery, it features a dramatic crotch-walnut front panel with ebony pull and butterfly joint and a felt lined, dovetailed drawer.

North Trestle Table.

The North Trestle table was designed for meal sharing with its unusual measurements of 1900 x 1200. Its round turned legs intersect with the braces and feet with complex housed bridle joinery which ensure strength and rigidity. Twin central rails with wedged through tenon joinery hint to the quality of the construction and create visual interest with their ribbon striped grain.

Alcove Filing Cabinet

Built in cabinet featuring frame and panel fronted drawers, handcut dovetails, shaped pulls, and veneered walnut back. Made to exact measurements and installed on site.

Bens Breakfront Bookcase

A collaboration with Fred Ganim.

American White Oak, Poplar, Brass.

This huge bookcase with lower cabinets measures in at 6m wide and over 3m high. It features split turned columns with fluting details, adjustable shelving throughout, cross banded crown moldings, hand cut dovetailed drawers with beading detail, beaded arch’s and raised panel doors with pinned mortise and tenon joinery.

Finished in hard wax oil.

Chevron Coffee Table

This 3-piece coffee table includes a sliding tray and 2 individual lower sections giving the owner multiple versatile options for display arrangements and practical convenience.

It is made from a combination of solid and veneered Oak in a chevron design with turned tapered legs and a coved lipping detail.

Berlin Drinks Cabinet

Reclaimed Honduran Mahogany, Southern Yellow Pine, Walnut Burl, Brass, Leather.

Made for the Piano Transformation Challenge in 2019, this 1st place award winning, wall hung cabinet is made from a salvaged piano which was made in Berlin in 1908. It features shapely shelves for glasses, a hand-carved back panel and leather lined preparation area on the fold down front. It hangs effortlessly on the wall from concealed french cleats.

Finished in pitch black milk paint, oyster white milk paint, rubbed shellac, oil and wax.

The Stark Dining Table made from U.S. Rock Maple and Ebonized U.S. White Oak.

Features striking beveled loop legs, traditional breadboard ends with draw-bored pins, diminishing tapered bevels and exposed through tenon mitred legs.

Finished in hand rubbed oil-wax blend.

These matched pair of side cabinets contain a remote controlled TV lift mechanism that enables the owner to hide the flat screen television within the cabinet when not in use.

A customized milk paint colour was achieved to match the palate of the room and applied by hand to create an eye catching and individual look.

Paired with custom made solid brass legs and pulls, and mirrored bases the Strapp Cabinets are elegant and functional with a traditional tone.

This tiny little jewelry box made from beautiful pomelle mahogany veneer with a bright Birdseye maple interior features removable solid mahogany interior dividers, maple stringing on the lid and shop-made brass locators.

Blanket Chest made from U.S. Cherry, holly, poplar and solid brass hardware.

Features continuous grain raised panels, pinned mortise and tenon joints into coved tapered legs, stepped lid with corner detailing and a ship lap base.

Grandfather Clock Hood Restoration

Shop-made Walnut 3mm Plywood, Honduras Mahogany.

This 300 year old clock needed new capitals turned and replaced, and new fretwork made to replace the old broken segments. This involved making a 3mm walnut plywood and cutting out the desired pattern on the scroll saw, then mitreing the joints and attaching the frets to the hood with new silk backing.

Finished in colour matched shellac.
